How to break in 8-ball
The beginning of any pool game is important this is no different in 8 ball, so the break can mean a big jump in one player’s lead of the game. Depending on which rules you are playing 8 ball you can possibly win the ball on a break if you sink the 8. While other times you just may want to hit the rack hard and spread all the balls out and continue through the balls until the 8 is hit in at the end of the game. The follow shot is the perfect technique for this game.
There is what is considered a power break. This is when the balls are hit and scattered widely around the table. But if the rules allow there is nothing like winning with a break!
This is the one time when you will want to hit the ball very hard, while most other times during the game of pool you need to control that stroke speed, you want the speed to be quick now. You need to hit the 1 ball which of course is the head ball in the rack. Try to hit it flush, or maybe you want to aim at another ball in the rack, just try to make sure that you are hitting that ball flush. This means the cue ball will hit that ball straight on. If you are accurate in your shot it will bode much better for the ball to slice through and separate the racked balls.
When placing the cue ball you should try to place it within three inches of the rails along the head string. Make sure that your cue is level or pretty close to level, you should of course be relaxed; aim at the second ball in the rack. This will allow the cue ball to bounce from the rail and perhaps hit the 8 ball into one of the side pockets, getting you a quick win!
