How to break in 9-ball billiards

Now let’s discuss how to break the rack in 9-ball!  In 9-ball it may in fact be the most important part of the game.  In fact the famous Miz said it was the most important element of the game of 9-ball.  Many times if a good player can sink a ball on the break they may continue and run the table.  The other person may not even get a shot in the game!

The Miz felt that most people made the mistake of a wild cue ball.  Meaning they didn’t control the ball and it messed up the break.  With 9-ball you need to try and sink a ball on every break, this allows you to continue your turn.  Plus you need to plan each shot ahead, if you do this properly and put the cue ball in the right spot for your next shot before you know it you will be shooting the nine for the win.

These are the things you need to keep in mind when breaking in 9-ball.  Don’t hit the one ball straight on from the head spot or the spot right next to the head.  Take advantage of being able to move the cue ball on the head string.  When hitting the cue ball hit it right above the center, and strike the one straight on.  It will then carom off the one and come to a stop.  If you have a wild cue ball on break who knows where the ball will stop.  The control of the cue ball is by far the most important thing in a game of 9-ball.

The way to get better at your break in 9-ball is the way that you will improve your overall game of pool, and that is practice.  With practice comes perfection or close to perfection! Once you master the break, you can move on to working with your combo shots.
