Tips For Buying Billiard Cues

Posted on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 by in Uncategorized

Buying billiard cues is challenging. There are many styles to choose from it’s difficult to know what qualities will make your game the best it can be. Players do not need to spend hundreds of dollars to find the right cue for them. Affordable cues can be found with all the right qualities. When selecting a cue, players should consider: the overall weight, material, and tip. New billiard players should look for a basic cue that provides a firm hit. The weight of a cue is important for assessing hit, and beginning players do best with a medium weight cue that is forgiving but sturdy. Pool cue materials contribute to the overall weight of the stick, and fiberglass cues are recommended. These types of cues are also desirable because they resist denting and warping over time. One of the most important selections will be the cue tip. Tip sizes and densities vary greatly, and can range from soft to extra hard. Typically, the softer a cue tip is the more likely it is to change in shape (flatten or ‘mushroom’) with each hit. Soft tips require maintenance to keep their shape. Advantages of soft tips include the ability to put spin on the ball (called ‘english’) and increased control. Advantages of harder tips include reduced maintenance and improved consistency with every hit.

What are the rules and strategies to playing a game of 8-ball?  This is by far the most popular pool game in the United States being played by over 30 million people.  With that being said the rules to the game are very easy.  You will need to break the rack, and you should choose which kind of ball you want to play stripes or solids.  The first one to hit in all their balls plus the eight will win the game.

Yes it is that simple to play the rules are straight forward and easy.  Strategies to the game are planning your shots ahead and if you don’t have a shot you should try to place the cue ball in the most difficult spot for your opponent to have not shot.

You should make sure that your stroke is controlled and speed is at a normal rate, meaning don’t hit the ball too hard, if you do you may well lose the game.  It’s a game that if you practice you will be able to become more skilled in. You’ll want to always be planning your shot.

The game of 8-ball is played all over the world and it’s a very fun game.  You should remember when you are playing that you should be relaxed and don’t let yourself become stressed.  If you become stressed you may alter your speed on the ball, or hit it sloppy.

You should also remember to aim the ball, and hit the ball in a solid stroke so that you will get the best speed on it and won’t hit it wild.  If you feel like you need to make a masse shot, where the ball curves around other balls to hit your ball in, then with practice you will also be able to add this shot to your arsenal.

So get in there and practice the game of 8-ball and have some fun.
